Your child must turn 5 by August 31 of the current year to attend kindergarten.
The Wakefield Public Schools offers two kindergarten programs.
Our half day kindergarten program is mandatory. There are two sessions to the half day kindergarten program, either morning or afternoon. Depending on which session your child attends in September, they will change over to the opposite session in mid January. The hours for half-day kindergarten are 8:45 A.M. - 11:15 A.M. for the morning session and 12:15 P.M. - 2:45 P.M. for the afternoon session.
We offer a fee-based all day kindergarten program. The cost for this program is $4,000 per year per child. Families may receive a 10% discount on this fee if payment is received by a date to be determined. The hours are 8:40 A.M. -2:45 P.M.

The tentative timeline for 2012-2013 kindergarten registration and screening is as follows:
Registration Week of January 23, 2012
All Day Kindergarten Lottery (if necessary) February 14, 2012
Kindergarten Screening Week of April 9, 2012
All families with kindergarten age children will receive information from their district school with specific dates and times for registration. If you have not received information regarding the kindergarten by the second week in January, please call your district school.
At registration, there will be an all day kindergarten application to sign your child up. If there are more children signed up than we have class space for, there will be a lottery.
